Synopsis from SJSU.edu – What is home? Where is home? What are the stories of home? How do we carry our stories from home?

What’s your story?: Telling Stories of the Desi Diaspora is a devised performance, crafted to examine the representation of the diasporic experience, particularly of the desi community, in order to document the evolution of the American landscape, bring to light stories that have been underrepresented or misrepresented historically, and effectively challenge harmful one dimensional and regressive stereotypes. Our project is crafted with the community, as we collectively remember stories of and from home. Because to remember is to resist.

This project was developed through devising and movement-based workshops with students at SJSU who identify as ‘desi’. We worked closely with our collaborators, Ishika Seth and Amit Patel, to facilitate and develop the workshops with students, which culminated into our embodied storytelling and devised performance event.
